This is the animal you will see most, every day, from the first morning. It is also the one that eats your mangoes the day before they are ripe, so expect mixed feelings.
Where you’ll see it
Everywhere in Coco. Power lines, roofs, fruit trees, the tops of walls. They are bold, noisy when annoyed, and completely at home in town.
What to know
The colour variation is real and startling. You will see one that is nearly black, one that is reddish with a white belly, and one that is grey, and they are all the same species. It is the reason the name says variegated.
They eat fruit, seeds and flowers, and they are efficient about it. If you have mango or almond trees, you will share them whether you like it or not. That is the extent of the trouble. They are not a health risk and they do not come indoors unless invited by an open bag of nuts.
